So today I bought a box of devils food cake mix and two tubs of frosting. I'll make my cake similar to George's, but I haven't decided how to decorate it yet. I don't think I've ever made myself a birthday cake before, I usually get one from Baskin Robins or the grocery store. I really like box-mix cake though, and i love frosting, so it's kind of strange that it's taken me 30 years to figure out what I really wanted..
Today I also started a compost pile in our backyard. Do you compost? When I told Costas I was going to start one he said, "but you don't do anything in the yard." and it's true. I don't have a garden, I don't like to get my hands dirty. But I do like collecting things. Collecting food trash and making a pile of it in the yard sounds like fun, let's see how long this lasts. Oh, and it was really satisfying to smash 3 pumpkins into the pile to get it going...
And maybe the most important-- today I also got life insurance. I've wanted to take out a policy for a long time but i was a little confused about my options and how to go about it. The Metlife rep made it easy and almost painless (there will be a bloodtest..). Now I have peace of mind.
And because this is still a quilting blog... Look what came in my mail last week:
2009-11-12
I will be 30 three weeks from Saturday
Aren't those feathers to die for? I have it folded on the back of the front room couch now and I just like to stare at it. George likes running his fingers across it.
As soon as the semester is over I'll bind it, but already I love it as it is. I am so grateful to Shannon for pulling me out of what could have become post-partum depression and pushing me to focus on quilting again. This year quilting has really kept me sane. Thank you.
